The 7940 and 7941 are the same phone just the 7941 has more lines. Changing the firmware is required for both the 7940 and the 7941. They use the same files and the same process. The files you need can be found here on the site. http://broadband-hamnet.org/download/7940/NG5V-Cisco-11-12-2014.zip  Hope this helps.KE8AVJ
My apologies I was confusing the 7941 and 7960. The 7940 and 7960 are the same with the 7960 having more lines. The files you need ARE different. The 7941 and the 7961 use the same files. This site has some good instructions on changing the phone and getting the right files. http://www.adrianandgenese.com/blogger/2011/02/16/how-to-upgrade-or-convert-a-cisco-ip-79xx-7940-7960-794x-796x-797x-phone-to-sip-or-sccp/ |

Thanx for your quick reply HP2AT. I tried it without the extra switch. I used a lot of timings, but no luck so far. I quess the switch is needed to overcome the time Windows need to restore the ethernet cable connection. I give it an other try tomorrow. See if I can pick up an ethernet switch somewhere that isn't answering to 192.168.1.1.

											Upgrade from 1.1.2

My LinkSys MESH nodes are running 1.1.2 firmware.  I see that 3.1.0 is available.  Two questions:
Am I correct in guessing that 3.1.0 is not backwards compatible?
As my MESH seems to be running OK, what improvements would I see with 3.1.0?

Subject :Can I flash the original Linksys firmware back in after installing Meshnode

Sorry if this question was asked before. I am quit a Noob regaring firmware flashing so all the stuff on this forum is a bit hard to follow.. I once flashed a few Linksys WRT54GL V 1.1 modems to use them as a Mesh node. Unfortunately the 2.4 GHz network is so occupied that it wasn't possible to make the disired connections. The project moved to the dark attic. Now I like to restore the old firmware of the routers and afther that I would like to flash a version of DD-WRT into it. I want to use them as an repeater during some camping time. This is what I have now. A Linksys modem type WRT54GL version 1.1 responding to  HTTP://localnode:8080/ and comming up with the login and mesh node screen. I can select the admin part and then let the modem look voor the BIN file. This he doesn't read. It's the last updated firmware file version 6.0  downloaded from the Linksys site. Is it possible to flash the Original firmware back in? and how is it done? hopefully somone can help me out.

I am no expert by any means but the cisco 7941 uses a different archecture in the configuration files...something to do with sccp v sip in the intial boot up. I am not sure it would be easy to get a 7941 to voip with the HSMM mesh without a lot of rewrite of the XML configuration. There are some sites that offer reconfig files but they also require a firmware rewrite that they charge for. Hopefully someone will lend a hand. Sorry I can't be of more help. I have a 7941 I picked up at the thrift store but I haven't been able to do anything with it.

No worries. It's something that is not mentioned in the video. I just assumed that people will have more than one node turned on. Glad it's working!

You followed all the directions verbatim, correct? Try plugging in a second node. It should appear after you do that. Notice at timestamp 17:33 (http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/documentation/170-asterisk-rpi-bbhn) I have two mesh nodes on the network. Services do not appear if you have one node.

I sent an email to Microtik a short while ago and they seemed very interested in the project and in helping in anyway they can. Hopefully someone will pick this up.

[kb9mwr 2014-11-18- 23:45:07]: And you'll be looking into developing BBHN firmware for Mikrotik hardware in the absence of Linksys right? :-)

Hi, I need a little help and guidance with a voip install. I am using a raspberry pi 2 model and  linksys gl broadband ham node v 3.1. I followed Jim Kinter's video tutorial and all proceeds smoothly until I check mesh status. My pbx is listed but "asterisk" is not listed under services. I checked the ip and subnet mask and they line up with the pi. What am I missing? Is it the gl model? Randy / n7wwa |
