So i have my node(s) installed and running.

There are two:

N3ckf-Mesh-1a = Ubiquiti Loco M2 - facing south west on the 2nd floor of my condo.  You probably wont hear this node.

N3ckf-Mesh-2a = Ubiquiti Bullet HP w/9db gain vertical omni antenna (HG-2409U) directly connected.  This is in my attic (basically at the "3rd floor" level) and the attic roof is pretty transparent to RF.  You *may* hear this one. (it hears about 80 other access points).

N3ckf-Mesh-1a is on the map but they're both in the same location.  My guess is you will need gain antennas to link to these (I dont "hear" any other nodes around).   They're on 24x7 now.  NOthing gatewayed to them yet.  I'll be interested to see if i see anyone in the "previous neighbors" log especailly on the one in the attic which i believe is runnign legal limit power (36dbm with antenna gain factored in)

Happy hunting!

Scott, KI6SEJ & I did a little war driving with his node today. We connected it to my node (N3CKF-Mesh-2a) and discovered that the "omni" range is actually not that long (basically i cover the condo complex i'm in and maybe the streets on either side) including a bit of Thornton Ave. (this is omni-to-omni, if you have a directional antenna the range could be much longer). We also wandered over to Terry, KW0RCA's place and messed around with his higly directional node as well. On the way back from doing that (after we pointed that node at the general Thornton Ave area, we could "hear" the node from the backyard of KI6SEJ's house (although with an omni antenna and a Linksys node, we couldnt quite get it to mesh. However, thats with the antenna at low elevation too. I loaned KI6SEJ an extra Bullet M2HP and Terry contributed a grid antenna so this may get worked on this week. I think we might be able to "mesh" Fremont if we had a few people who lived up on the hill like Terry does and can push "lanes" of connectivity down to the flat-lands... I may get a directional as well and see if i can see Terry or Scott. -jcp- N3CKF
